KARACHI: Four suspects have "confessed" to a robbery, rape, and murder that took place earlier this month in the metropolis' Upper Gizri neighbourhood, police said on Wednesday.

According to senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ameer Saud Magsi, the incident occurred on April 13, when the suspects had entered a house for robbery. After facing resistance by the occupants, they shot a girl and fled, taking with them a mobile phone and Rs30,000.

At the time, the case had been registered against "unknown persons".

In the days that followed, the suspects were traced and arrested by a probe team formed on the directives of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Sharjeel Kharal and headed by the SSP in-charge of investigations.

"The team employed technical methods to arrest the culprits of a blind case," said the SSP (Investigation).

According to the SSP, the arrested suspects "confessed during questioning to raping the girl as well".

"They raped her, killed her, and then robbed the residents, before fleeing," he said.

SSP Magsi said the stolen money and mobile phone has been recovered.

The SSP (Investigation) said multiple cases have been registered in various police stations and further breakthroughs in the case are expected.
