KARACHI: After days of sweltering heat, many areas in Karachi received light rain on Wednesday, cooling down a recent spell of hot and humid weather in the city.

Light rain along with gusty winds and duststorms hit Karachi, particularly in Gulshan-e-Hadid and Nazimabad.

Light rain was also witnessed on I I Chundrigar Road and surrounding areas.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had forecast rain in different cities of Sindh, including Karachi, due to weakening air pressure in eastern India.

The Met department said that besides Karachi, Nawabshah, Tharparkar, Thatta and Badin are also likely to receive heavy rains.

During the day, the PMD had warned that the mercury is expected to hit the 41˚C mark in the metropolis.

According to the PMD, the Gulshan-e-Hadeed area received the highest amount of rainfall, where around seven millimetres of rain was reported, followed by the Sarjani town where 4.4mm of rain had been reported.

Meanwhile, 2.4mm rain was recorded in Orangi Town, 2mm at PAF Base Masroor and Quaidabad, 1.4mm in Nazimabad, 1.2mm in Gulshan-e-Maymar and 1mm in North Karachi.
