How expensive will domestic cigarettes become after new taxes?

The government has slapped taxation measures worth Rs440 billion in the budget 2022-23 to meet the Rs7.004 billion revenue collection target.

After the finance bill was released Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Asim Ahmed said that Rs355 billion in new taxes are imposed, while the excise duty has also been increased on domestic cigarettes.

He said taxes are increased on local cigarettes may cause an increase of 20 to 0.40 paisa per cigarette.
