Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced its lists of candidates for the elections slated for February 8.

The former ruling party, amid allegations of a lack of a level playing field, has decided to field candidates on all 266 national assembly seats across Pakistan. However, several constituencies had been marked ‘pending’, mainly due to a difference of opinion in naming candidates.

In all, the naming of candidates in at least 34 NA constituencies is pending and these include mainly Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Kasur, Khanewal, Sahiwal and Pakpattan.

Former prime minister Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail, has been barred from contesting polls due to his conviction in the Toshakhana case. His nomination papers have been rejected by the returning officers.

Interestingly, the PTI has fielded its candidates against its erstwhile close ally Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, and his nephew Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, as the two sides reportedly developed differences over the May 9 mayhem.

There is no nomination pending from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, whereas, in the other three provinces, scores of constituencies are still open for final nominations from the party.
