Several illnesses visit the general public, during the changing seasons and they range from the common cold, to influenza, etc.

Below is the list of 10 measures that contribute to preventing these various winter illnesses.

1. Wash or sanitize hands regularly 

One should frequently wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. In case of water unavailability make good use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers. 

2. Avoid contact with sick people

To curtail the chances of contracting viruses from others, maintain distance from sick people. 

3. Rest well and exercise more

Get at least 7-9 hours of a good night’s sleep and exercise regularly. 

4. Eat a healthy diet

Eat a well-balanced diet that guarantees a strong immune system. 

5. Avoid touching face

Refrain from touching transmission areas on your face such as your eyes, nose, and mouth. 

6. Avoid smoking 

Refrain from smoking as it contributes to common colds and other respiratory diseases by weakening immunity.

7.  Maintain home hygiene

Clean and sanitize commonly used places and surfaces from time to time. 

8. Stay hydrated

Drink an adequate quantity of water and take herbal teas that lend a helping hand to the body’s immune system in combatting common ailments. 

9. Get vaccinated

Get inoculated with a flu shot once a year and consult your doctor for effective vaccines. 

10. Wear a face mask 

To inhibit the transmission of germs, use face masks in heavily crowded places. Also, use a handkerchief or tissue to cover the mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
