Former president Donald Trump is campaigning for the November 5 presidential election and during a recent event, he apparently lied about speaking to the family of a 25-year-old who was shot dead.
Ruby Garcia was murdered by her boyfriend on March 22. Brandon Ortiz-Vite, who confessed to the crime, was living in the US illegally. This event gave Trump a perfect opportunity to talk against immigrants, Inquisitr reported.
“Ruby’s loved ones and community are left grieving for this incredible young woman, remembering what they called her, they said she had just this most contagious laughter and when she walked into the room she lit up the room, and I’ve heard that from so many people. I spoke to some of her family,” Trump told a crowd in Michigan.
He did not speak with any of us, so it was kind of shocking seeing that he had said that he had spoke with us, and ... misinforming people on live TV,” Garcia’s sister, Mavi Garcia, told local TV news station Target 8, as per USA Today.
USA Today, citing police, reported that Garcia was in a romantic relationship with Ortiz-Vite and she was found shot dead on the side of a freeway in Grand Rapids on March 22.
The boyfriend later confessed to killing the 25-year-old. He had entered the US unlawfully as a child and was provided legal status under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals programme, which expired in 2019.
He was deported in 2020 but he returned at an unknown date, as per U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
