The US tech giant Apple brought an iOS 17.2 update to its iPhones last year in which the users were provided a new feature NameDrop, including an improvement in the keyboard and trying text messages.

However, there was something hidden that the iPhone maker added to its handsets with most of the users being oblivious about it.

Among the updates, Apple also introduced an application Journal for its users who want to write down their thoughts and do not opt for diaries.

This application enabled users to type about their feelings, and expressions and note down memorable events, etc.

For those users who do not know how to start writing about their feelings and how to capture moments in words, the iPhone maker also added a solution to that — Journaling Suggestions.

If people allow the settings, this grants iPhone access to your device storage including your data, pictures, and locations, and then suggests personalised hints.

With this setting, some users discovered that there is another option that inadvertently turns on which is "Discoverable by Others".

As per the report from UNILAD, if you turn off Journaling Suggestions or even delete the Journal app, your device may be discovered by other users.

Even if the Discoverable by Other setting is enabled, there is nothing to worry about as it is not a privacy risk, according to Apple.

Moreover, any collected data suggested by problems in the journal feature is also not shared by the company itself.

The company's website noted: "The other person will only see a prompt like 'dinner with friends' if a lot of other iPhones turn up in the evening, for instance. And it doesn’t mean your location is being tracked or stored anywhere."
