Charli XCX confirmation raises hope for Britney Spears album

Rumours were doing rounds about Charli XCX having written a song for Britney Spears's potential album. Now, she has confirmed the speculations.

Appearing on Watch What Happens Live, the British songwriter was put in a tight spot after a caller asked her about the reports.

"Um, so. Well, yes, but, it leaked to the press," she said reluctantly. "Britney then did this post where she was like, 'I don't have random people write for me.' I was like, okay, go off! So I don't know that she was part of the process," referring to the Toxic hitmaker's post about shutting down the rumour.

Interjecting, the host Andy Cohen says, "Maybe her team was looking for—." Leading the B2b singer to reply, "Her team was running before they could walk," noting, "Britney probably has a load of other projects that she's focusing on. So I did get asked but I don't know if it's like, real."

The host, meanwhile, asked the elephant in the room question. "Let me ask you this: did you write anything in the hopes of her recording it?".

"Of course," Charli responded. "I went to Malibu and I wrote. You always write songs hoping Britney's going to record them ... but you know, she didn't record it," adding, "I love her. It would be a dream come true."

Britney, however, remained vocally against joining the music industry. But, reports say efforts are being made to turn the Grammy winner toward song-making again.
