Kylie Jenner is under fire for her extensive private jet use, with critics branding her a "climate criminal" after she issued a statement about relief efforts for the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
The controversy erupted after it was revealed that Jenner’s $70 million Bombardier Global 7500 jet had made 11 flights since January 1, including three flights in a single day on January 16.
According to Celebrity Jets, these flights have emitted approximately 162 tons of CO2 so far this year, equivalent to the electricity use of 33 homes for a year, as per the Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator.
Four of the flights were under one hour, with one journey lasting just 15 minutes between Los Angeles and Camarillo.
As per Daily Mail’s reports, criticism intensified when Jenner posted a statement via her Kylie Cosmetics Instagram account, pledging donations of beauty products to aid wildfire victims.
In regards to this, the statement read, "We are truly heartbroken to see the devastation caused by the fires in Los Angeles.”
However, many accused her of hypocrisy, pointing out her excessive jet use.
Moreover, one follower commented, “Taking a private jet to Paris, which contributes to the warmer weather and wildfires in LA, and then putting a bandaid on middle-class LA fire victims with your lotion, is horrific.”
Additionally, the billionaire business woman used her jet for a 47-minute flight from London to Paris to support her boyfriend Timothée Chalamet at a movie premiere.
As per the publication’s claims, Jenner’s jet use is especially contentious as Southern California battles catastrophic wildfires that have claimed 27 lives and burned 40,000 acres.
Furthermore, environmental activists and social media users have called her actions “performative” and “irresponsible,” with one Reddit user writing, “They don’t care. Kylie sharing donation links is performative.”
It is worth mentioning that this isn’t the first time Jenner has faced criticism for her private jet habits. In 2022, she was slammed for taking a 12-minute flight for a journey that would have taken just 39 minutes by car, as per the outlet.
