Ryan Reynolds is singing praises of the late Canadian comedy icon John Candy while sharing a new update on the upcoming documentary he is producing about him.
The 48-year-old Canadian-American actor and film producer appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he talked about the documentary he is making in collaboration with Colin Hanks under the banner of Reynolds’ Maximum Effort company.
For the unversed, Reynolds announced the project in October 2022 on X (previously Twitter) and called Candy “as resonant now as he was” ahead of his demise at age 43 in 1994.
He scribbled at that time, “With John Candy trending, I’ll just say I love him. So much so, @maximumeffort is working on a documentary on his life with @colinhanks. Expect tears.”
Now, on the show, the Deadpool & Wolverine star said, “I get to meet heroes. There was a group of eight to ten people that really were generation-defining creators, and it’s wonderful to talk to storytellers about a beautiful man, who was a beautiful storyteller, who passed at 43, way too young.”
Speaking highly of Candy, Reynolds quipped, “He was so generous with people, and he was a good person when no one was watching. And I think that’s really important.”
Before concluding, it is pertinent to mention that Candy embraced death in his sleep after suffering a heart attack on March 4, 1994, while filming Wagons East in Durango, Mexico.
