The chances of Prince William getting to completely strip his brother and sister-in-law of their titles has sparked another debate.
Royal expert Jennie Bond was the one to come forward for this, and she spoke to the The Mirror about this likelihood.
She dived in almost immediately and noted the chances of this “very public insult” seeing the light of day.
In her eyes, “Granted, there seems to be a public appetite for stripping them of their titles, but I think it's unlikely that William would choose to do this.” Because such an act would be seen as a “vindictive” act.
For those unversed, while some titles are handled at a monarch’s discretion, there are others that require the act of Parliament.
Prince Harry since his marriage carries three titles bestoyed by the late Queen Elizabeth, Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron of Kilkeel, including ofcourse his HRH.
Any action that would strip him of them “would be a bold government that dares to tread into such territory when there are, truthfully, far more urgent matters to address,” Ms James admitted.
Especially since even in the past royals usually retained their titles despite exile in some cases, like King Edward VIII.
So she believes, “William may remain permanently estranged from his brother, which would indeed be a sorrowful situation. But, if that's the case, I believe he will continue to view Harry as irrelevant to both his personal life and to this country. And I don't think he would bother himself with the task of revoking either of their titles.”
Not to mention, Ms James warns that Meghan and Harry could get really “hurt and angry” should Prince William decide to strip them of it because “it would, of course, be a very public insult.”
“Curiously, even though they have turned their backs on rejoining the working royals, they seem very wedded to the idea that their children should use their royal titles. And Meghan is clearly not averse to using her HRH, even though she was expressly told not to.”
“So I'm sure they would be hurt and angry if theirs were taken from them. It would, inevitably, reduce their standing, particularly, perhaps, in the eyes of the American public, who seem to adore royalty. But I simply do not think this is going to happen.”
