Donald Trump always praised King Charles but saved 'perfect' rating for Kate

Donald Trump has praised King Charles during the royal visit to the United States, but away from the cameras, the President reportedly had plenty more to say about the rest of the Royal Family.

Trump hosted the King and Queen at the White House in April 2026 following a four-day programme that included a state banquet and an address to Congress. 

While speaking to the press, the President described Charles as the “greatest king”.

But according to royal author Robert Hardman, Trump’s admiration for the family did not end there.

During the visit, Trump met Hardman in the Oval Office to discuss his biography of the late Queen Elizabeth II. 

Writing in the Daily Mail, Hardman recalled Trump asking about Prince William and offering his own verdict on the future King.

“William, he’ll be a good King, won’t he?” He reportedly said. “He’s very nice. A great guy. I like him.”

The President was equally complimentary about Kate, whom he reportedly described as “perfect” and “so great”.

Trump also asked after the Princess following her cancer diagnosis and praised the courage she had shown during her recovery.

“She was sick, people said crazy things about her, and she was so brave,” he reportedly said.

The comments came months after he last met the Princess of Wales at a state banquet at Windsor Castle in September.

Kate had been seated beside the President during the glittering dinner and made a striking appearance in a couture gown by British designer Phillipa Lepley, featuring a gold Chantilly lace overlay.

Following the event, he described the Princess as “so radiant, and so healthy and so beautiful”.
