King Charles to return to UK in time for regular cancer treatment: report

King Charles' schedule during his two-day visit to Canada has been carefully planned to accommodate his health needs, ensuring he returns to the UK in time for his regular treatment, reported the Mail citing unnamed royal sources.

King Charles and Queen Camilla on Monday left for Canada for a highly symbolic visit showing support for the nation that recognises the British monarch as its sovereign.

The 76-year-old king is still undergoing cancer treatment, which has limited his workload, so the two-day trip shows his commitment to Canada, one of 15 countries where he is monarch.

"It's challenging, less than 36 hours door to door, but although it feels very short and intense, that's actually the best way to handle it," the Mail quoted sources as saying.

The sources said, "The King and Queen will hit the ground running, cram in as much as they possibly can, all without even noticing the time difference. And the team will have him back in the UK for his regular scheduled [cancer] treatment as usual."

According to the British media, the King had originally planned a lengthier visit last year, but his cancer diagnosis and the Canadian electoral cycle prevented this.

Following an invitation from Prime Minister Mark Carney, Charles will open parliament in Ottawa on Tuesday, the first time a British monarch has carried out the duty since his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, did so 68 years ago.
