All flight operations at Edinburgh Airport, which is considered as Scotland’s busiest international airport, were abruptly suspended on Friday morning, December 5, following a major air traffic control system outage.
This left passengers stranded both in terminals and on planes sparking widespread disruption across travel networks.
The incident occurred at 8:30am GMT and as reported by airport officials is an “IT issue with the air traffic control provider.”
All inbound and outbound air traffic is halted bringing the entire airport to a standstill.
Airport management confirmed that “no flights are currently operating” and requested passengers to contact airlines for all updated information.
The disruption comes amid the peak travel season, compounding frustration for holiday and business travellers.
Officials confirmed that emergency teams are working rigorously to resolve the issue. However, no full restoration of services was immediately provided.
Further updates are expected as technicians work to bring the vital air traffic control systems back online.
