Thousands of Chime users found themselves locked out of their accounts on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
The company reported a widespread outage, leaving customers unable to check balances unable to check balances, make payments, or access funds.
The outage is also confirmed by Downdetector, reporting that the problem started before 1:00 p.m. ET.
At its peak, around 20,000 users reported issues on the platform. The majority of the users experienced problems with the mobile app, while others cited difficulties with online banking and transferring funds.
According to Chime’s status page, the systems were functioning normally at the onset of the outage, but later, they confirmed they were investigating the outage.
Chime reported outages on multiple features, such as SpotMe, Pay Anyone, Mobile Check Deposit, MyPay, ACH transfers, and dispute filing. Card purchases, ATM transactions, and direct deposit were operational during the outage.
A specific cause for the disruption has not been confirmed by Chime. However, past outages were mainly due to third-party payment processors or cloud service providers.
For users who are encountering problems with the app, troubleshooting steps may include force-quitting and restarting the app, deleting the cache, and/or upgrading to the latest version of the app, or even using the Chime website to access the accounts as a possible remedy.
