Matthew McConaughey has recently shared he learned a valuable lesson about on-set risks after he was injured doing his own stunt work in Hollywood movies.

The Interstellar actor opened up that he “hyperextended” his left leg performing his stunt while filming 2002 fantasy-adventure movie, Reign of Fire, during an appearance on Hot Ones.

Matthew admitted he has no issue doing his own stunts as long as he receives the insurance.

The American actor recalled he hurt himself on the 2002 movie while shooting a scene in which he walked across a charred field and then jumped down into a shed.

“You could see the bottom of the tunnel,” said the 56-year-old.

Matthew revealed that it “was about a six-foot drop, right? So, you see it. Go down, you know when to bend your knees and take in the impact”.

However, the True Detective actor got injured as the lights went off and he could not see through the darkness.

“I'm like, ‘Well, I remember where the floor is, just six feet to it.’ And I jumped in, and because I didn't see the bottom, I didn't know when to bend my knees and take the impact,” explained Matthew.

The Dallas Buyers Club actor mentioned that he “hyperextended” his left leg and “crumbled”.

“I was like that was such a dumb move… I should have said, 'Cut – I don't see it,” added Matthew.

Elsewhere on the talk show, A Time to Kill actor noted it was a “silly injury” that could have been avoided but he’s committed to perform his own stunts only if “movies’ insurance” would permit it.
