In line with its increasing splurge on podcasts, streaming giant Netflix is introducing two new original series featuring well-known comedian Pete Davidson and former NFL player Michael Irvin.

'The White House' and 'The Pete Davidson Show' release dates

Titled “The White House,” Irvin’s podcast will be aired on January 19, followed by “The Pete Davidson Show” on January 30, the streaming service announced.

Both podcasts, exclusively available to Netflix subscribers, are capitalising on the stardom of their hosts.

Having two successful comedy hits on Netflix, Davidson will host candid conversations with friends from his garage every Friday. Irvin’s show will provide in-depth sports news and analysis twice a week, featuring guest co-hosts like former NFL All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

These new additions are part of Netflix’s growing lineup of original video podcasts that also comprise licensed shows from iHeartMedia, Spotify, and Barstool Sports, such as "Dear Chelsea" and "My Favorite Murder."

The important and unfortunate thing is that these licensed podcasts are not fully available on YouTube, meaning Netflix is the only medium to access these podcasts.

The announcement comes as Netflix is eagerly challenging YouTube’s dominance in the realm of podcasting, where viewers are estimated to watch over 700 million hours of podcasts monthly on living room devices by 2025.

Regardless of the tough competition, Netflix is still in the early stages of establishing a considerable podcast catalogue while competing with established platforms like YouTube and Spotify.
