The 2028 Summer Olympics have entered a pivotal phase as organizers opened registration for the first public ticket draw, pledging affordability with 1 million tickets priced at just $28 each.

The games are still two years away. However, LA28 launched its “fairest” process to distribute seats for the first Olympics on U.S. soil in 32 years.

Everyone around the globe has an equal opportunity to register online for a random draw. LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman stated, “These games belong to everyone. These games have to be affordable and inclusive.”

Organisers announced a tiered pricing strategy focused on broad accessibility, with approximately one-third of all tickets to cost less than $100.

The model echoes the approach of the 2024 Paris Games, where entry-level tickets started at roughly $28.

Registrations are open until March 18. Those selected in the random draw will receive an email with a designated time slot in April to attempt to purchase tickets for events, including the opening and closing ceremonies.

Officials emphasised that receiving a slot does not guarantee ticket availability.

LA28 Chief Allison Katz-Mayfield stressed the system’s fairness.

Activities such as Olympics-related competitions and the Olympic Congress will be conducted in the state of California. Softball and canoe slalom activities will be held in Oklahoma City.

There shall be an early-purchase opportunity for residents of the areas hosting the activities.

This ticket-opening event began with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron at the historic LA Memorial Coliseum, a site that hosted the 1932 Games, the 1984 Games in the city of Los Angeles, and will play a central role in the 2028 Games.
