Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have experienced every major milestone together, from their early career success to heartbreaks and engagements.
Reflecting on their 17-year friendship, the Emmy-nominated actress grew emotional as her pop megastar best friend was brought up during her recent appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, hosted by her husband Benny Blanco and his best friend, David Andrew Bird, aka Lil Dicky.
“Do you guys ever sit there and you’re like, ‘I can’t believe this is what our life is now?’” Blanco, 36, asked, to which Gomez, 33, replied, “It’s more so that, ‘Wow, we survived it!’”
She continued, “It’s absolutely unbelievable to come from 17 years of friendship — from multiple heartbreaks and love stories and fun stories in life — we both ended up being fortunately being engaged around the same time, and that was the coolest part!”
To refresh fans’ memories, Gomez and Blanco got engaged in December 2024, while Swift said “yes” to NFL star Travis Kelce months later in August. “You both ended up with good dudes,” Bird told Gomez, who agreed, saying about the friendship, “I’m very lucky...”
The Only Murders in the Building star also confirmed after years of fan speculation that Dorothea, a track from Swift’s 2020 album evermore, was about her.
Another song that Swift wrote for Gomez “a decade ago” was Family, in which Swift sings about their respective dreams to become a movie star and play stadiums. Fighting tears, Gomez said, “And now, when I listen to that song, both of those things have happened for us, and that’s really sweet.”
