Melissa Barrera compares her ‘Scream' exit with Macklemore's tour fallout

Melissa Barrera has spoken out in support of Macklemore after the rapper was removed from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour.

She couldn’t help but drew a direct comparison between his recent experience and her own highly publicised departure from the Scream franchise nearly three years ago.

In comments reported by the Associated Press, Barrera said she was emotional seeing the support Macklemore received from other musicians following his exit from Sheeran’s tour.

“It was so beautiful to see Finneas and the band and all the opening acts pulling out in support of Macklemore,” Barrera said. “It made me emotional. You know, I didn’t get that when it happened to me.”

She added that she understood why people may have been reluctant to speak out at the time, saying, “It was too soon. People were too scared. But it’s good to see that almost three years later, at least things have changed.”

The comments come amid a major shake-up surrounding Sheeran’s ongoing tour. Macklemore was removed from the remaining dates after making pro-Palestinian remarks during his September 4 performance at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.

The rapper subsequently said he was not a victim and maintained that the issue was about the power artists and venues have over what can be expressed onstage.

Following Macklemore’s removal Finneas, Lukas Graham and Aaron Rowe announced that they would no longer perform, while Irish band Beoga also left its role as part of Sheeran’s touring lineup.

Barrera’s experience, meanwhile dates back to November 2023, when she was removed from Scream VII after a series of social-media posts about the war and her support for Palestinians.
