Lizzo is flipping the script on how we talk about body changes – and it all started with a cheeky comment from her boyfriend.
Speaking on On Purpose with Jay Shetty, the Special singer shared how Myke Wright unintentionally sparked a mindset shift she did not see coming.
"My man, he's so funny… I was like, 'Oh my gosh I lost five pounds' and he was like, 'Where did it go?'" she said.
Not exactly the reaction she expected.
"I was mad at him… 'Why would he say that?' but he was like, 'Where did it go?'"
And just like that, something clicked.
Instead of focusing on “losing,” Lizzo realized she wanted a different narrative altogether. She is not losing – she is gaining.
"I want to be very intentional about the words that come out of my mouth because there's young people who are watching me… they're applying it to their own experience," she explained.
The Grammy winner did not hold back about how media messaging shaped her growing up either, saying it impacted her “brain chemistry” and how she viewed herself.
"Be careful with your words because it can affect somebody in ways you don't even know," she added.
"Even me releasing the weight has affected people… I want to transmute it into something that makes people feel comfortable and less afraid of it."
The About Damn Time crooner has been vocal about her journey for a year, previously telling The New York Times she’s taking things slow and steady:
"I'm taking the time every day to put some love into my body… My body is nobody’s business."
And if there was any doubt about her love life? She is made it clear before – she’s all in.
