Lauren Weisberger brought a piece of Vogue history to the red carpet of The Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere, carried on her daughter's arm.
The author of the novel that started it all attended Monday night's premiere at Lincoln Center in New York City with her husband and two children.
In an Instagram post after the event, Weisberger described the evening as "weird and wonderful" and revealed a detail that will resonate with anyone who loves the story behind the story: her daughter walked the red carpet carrying a Prada bag that Anna Wintour herself had gifted Weisberger years ago.
"Many moons ago Anna Wintour gifted me the very Prada bag that, tonight, my beautiful daughter carried down the red carpet," she wrote.
The bag is an early iteration of the now-iconic Prada Cleo, dating from the early 2000s, the era when Weisberger worked at Vogue for less than a year at the start of 2000 before going on to write her 2003 novel.
The book, inspired by her real-life experience as Wintour's assistant, became the beloved 2006 film and is now the basis for the much-anticipated sequel opening on 1 May.
The Prada connections didn't stop with Weisberger's daughter.
Wintour herself arrived in a custom striped Prada dress originally from 2016, while her daughter-in-law pulled from the editor's personal archive, wearing a floral Prada gown that Wintour had first worn in 2019.
It was, in other words, a very Prada evening, which feels entirely appropriate.
