King Charles and Queen Camilla carried out one of the most important engagements of Scotland's royal calendar as they attended the ceremonial opening of the new session of the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, before returning to the historic Palace of Holyroodhouse.
The King took part in the formal proceedings at the Scottish Parliament, continuing a tradition that symbolises the close relationship between the Crown and Scotland's devolved legislature.
The ceremony, held at the start of a new parliamentary session, brought together ministers, Members of the Scottish Parliament and civic leaders to mark the beginning of parliamentary business.
Following the event, the royal couple were warmly greeted by crowds gathered outside the Parliament building before making their way back to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the monarch's official residence in Scotland.
Among the day's most heartwarming moments was an unexpected interaction involving Queen Camilla's equerry, Major Robert "Rob" Treasure of The Rifles.
As the King and Queen departed, Major Treasure was seen chatting with a young girl waiting to catch a glimpse of the royal couple, creating a touching scene that quickly delighted royal watchers.
The engagement forms part of Holyrood Week also known as Royal Week when the King and Queen traditionally spend time in Scotland celebrating Scottish communities, culture and public service.
During the annual visit, members of the Royal Family typically attend ceremonies, investitures and engagements recognising individuals and organisations making a difference across the country.
