Prince Harry is “reassessing” his options as Meghan Markle and their two children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet could be opting out the much-anticipated trip.
The Duke of Sussex had reportedly been looking forward to the visit as he would take on Invictus Games related engagements and have his family visit the gravesite of Princess Diana.
However, all those plans are once again left to uncertainty as Harry’s request for police protection has been declined.
Although, Harry’s Invictus team has assured that there are no regrets about choosing Birmingham as the city to host the important event.
On Saturday, they issued a message to thank “all members of the Armed Forces community, past and present” for their service.
“On UK Armed Forces Day, we celebrate the service and sacrifice of those who have worn the uniform,” the message began. “For many serving personnel and veterans, Birmingham holds a special place in their story.”
They noted how during the conflict in Afghanistan, Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham was the “destination for hundreds of British service personnel returning from the battlefield” to heal.
“Bringing the Invictus Games to Birmingham in 2027 carries real meaning. This is a city that has stood alongside the Armed Forces community through some of their most difficult moments. Now it will welcome competitors, families and supporters from across the world to celebrate what is possible after injury.”
They continued, doubling down that there could be “no more fitting place” to host the Invictus Games.
It remains to be seen if Meghan and the children could be joining Harry on the visit.
