Prince Edward, who is the Vice Patron of Commonwealth Sport, oversaw the preparations being conducted for the upcoming summer’s Commonwealth Games.
The King’s youngest brother joined the Glasgow 2026 staff and volunteers at the newly-opened Uniform and Accreditation Centre (UAC), experiencing the journey all Games-time personnel have to go through with their roles.
In one heart-warming interaction with one of the oldest volunteers, Jimmy, Edward asked how long they have been volunteering for. One said that they had been doing it for 58 years since 1968, which left the Duke in shock.
“Really?” Edward exclaimed. And they all had a laugh about their running jokes.
The workforce for the Games has entered its “final stages” of preparation as they are set to welcome around 15 thousand people at the UAC, located on the campus of Glasgow Caledonian University.
The royal appeared to be enjoying himself on the visit as he tried on the bright uniform jacket designed for the games.
Edward was delighted to learn that he found the one which was a “perfect fit” for him.
Earlier this year, the Glasgow 2026 volunteers were officially named the ‘Legends’, a tribute to the warm, friendly spirit for which the city is renowned, according to the official description.
“Reflecting that energy, the volunteer uniform – a bright, unmistakable pink – will ensure they stand out in the crowds at Games time.”
