Prince Edward stepped back into Glasgow's rich maritime tradition on Tuesday as he visited the City of Glasgow College's Riverside Campus.
The Duke met the future officers of the UK's Merchant Navy and experienced the cutting-edge technology shaping the next generation of seafarers.
He was welcomed by the College's Principal and Chief Executive, Dr Paul Little, along with the Lord Lieutenant of Glasgow, Dr Jacqueline McLaren, before spending time with representatives of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners and students preparing for life at sea.
During the visit, Sophie’s husband spoke with navigation and engineering cadets supported by Trinity House and the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, listening as they shared stories from their training voyages across the Arctic, the North Sea and the Caribbean.
He took controls of a virtual container ship navigating into Singapore's bustling harbour, the royal tested the same advanced technology used to train professional mariners for real life challenges at sea.
Dr Paul Little said the visit continues a decades long relationship between the Royal Family and maritime education in Glasgow.
He also reflected that the site has welcomed senior royals for more than 50 years, from the late Lord Louis Mountbatten opening the former College of Nautical Studies in 1969 to Princess Anne marking its 50th anniversary and returning again in 2023 to learn about the College's contribution to the UK's shipbuilding skills programme.
