KARACHI: Three people including a local office bearer of the Awami National Party (ANP) were gunned down while two police personnel sustained injuries in Empress Market area of the metropolis on Friday, Geo news reported.
According to DSP Saddar Zameer Abbasi, the ANP office bearer was killed when some unidentified assailants in a car opened fire at him. He said that the police attempted to arrest one of the attackers but the angry protesters took him away and later he was reported dead.
He said that the incident triggered riots in the area due to which angry mobs opened fire, killing at least one person.
The officer said that the police had taken two cars into their custody. He said that weapons were also recovered from the vehicles.
Answering a question, he said that a man was arrested and preliminary investigation suggested that the incident was result of an old dispute between two rivals.
