KARACHI: The anti-corruption unit of the International Cricket Council (ICC) has summoned disgraced Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt to Dubai after he appealed for permission to play domestic cricket.

Former captain Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were all banned for spot-fixing during the Pakistan team's tour of England in 2010. The spot-fixing took place during the fourth test at Lord's.

The trio, who served jail sentences in the United Kingdom, was also given minimum five year bans by the anti-corruption tribunal of the ICC.

While the ICC allowed Amir to return to domestic cricket earlier this year ahead of the end of his five-year ban, Butt was given a two-year suspended sentence.

But it appears that the disgraced captain's prayers have been heard.

Responding to his appeal, the ICC's Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has summoned Butt to appear before it in Dubai.

Butt had requested the ICC that, like Amir, he be also allowed to play domestic cricket.

Under a revised anti-corruption code of the International Cricket Council, a banned player can apply to ICC's ACSU to allow him to resume playing domestic cricket before the end of his ban.
