Five MQM workers handed down life terms
KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday handed down life terms to five workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Irfan alias Unit Incharge, Shahabuddin, Sheraz,, Farhan and Naseer were awarded life imprisonment by an ATC judge after being proven guilty in an armed attack on police in 2013.

An ongoing operation jointly carried out by police and the Rangers have witnessed a new momentum in Karachi after country’s civil and military leadership resolved to root out terrorism in the backdrop of December 16 militant attack on a Peshawar school.

Rangers’ raids and detentions of some political workers allegedly involved in criminal activities drew strong criticism from MQM which termed the operations carried out against the party as victimization of its workers, a charge that the paramilitary force denies.
