Bopara stars with bat, ball to help Kings maul Qalandars

SHARJAH: England all-rounder Ravi Bopara carried on his form with the bat and the ball from last night scoring 71 runs and grabbing 6 wickets for only 16 runs to help Karachi Kings comprehensively defeating Lahore Qalandars by 27 runs in the 12th game of Pakistan Super League (PSL) here on Friday.

Bopara took all the key Qalandars wickets including Chris Gayle, Umar Akmal and captain Dwayne Bravo after performing brilliantly with bat to post a mammoth 178-5 for the Kings. He was given the man of the match award for his superb performance.

Gayle made 37, Delport 55 and Akmal 19 for Qalandars but others could not help them enough to reach the target and were restricted to 151-8 in full 20 overs.

Bopara hit 3 fours and 4 sixes in his fiery innings. Nauman Anwar 35, captain Shoaib Malik 27, Imad Wasim 11 and Mushfiqur Rahim, playing his first PSL game, with 10 runs contributed to the team total.

Zafar Gohar and Zohaib Khan grabbed two wickets each while Kevin Cooper took the fifth wicket for Qalandars.

Azhar Ali, Lahore Qalandars skipper, is resting today and the baton has been passed on to the Caribbean superstar Dwayne Bravo, who won the toss and elected to field first.

His fielders, however, were not up to the mark and dropped about six catches, helping the Kings batsmen to post such a huge score on the board.
