KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar on Thursday said that Aamir Liaquat Hussain should share information about the threats he’s receiving, hinting that “someone” might be taking advantage of the situation.

During Geo News’ show “Aaj Shahzaib Khanzada Kay Saath”, he said that anyone could be threatening Dr Aamir Liaquat after the situation his party was facing.

Farooq Sattar said that he talked to Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain day before yesterday, adding that the situation was getting confusing.

“I ask Aamir Bhai to show patience as there might be some conspiracy behind these threats”, he added.

He said that he tried to contact Dr Aamir yesterday. However, it could not be established.

Earlier, famous television figure claimed he is getting death threats, and that MQM founder Altaf Hussain would be responsible if any harm comes to him.

"I am being told I am a bigger traitor than even Mustafa Kamal, and that I will be killed in a more painful manner than Kamal," he said.

He said he was getting the death threats from unknown numbers.

“I just want to clarify that if I am killed, don't let them label me as a worker of the MQM. If I am killed, bury me wrapped in the Pakistan flag, because I am not affiliated with them."

The former MQM leader's statement comes days after a controversial anti-Pakistan speech by Altaf Hussain led to violent protests in Karachi and MQM workers and supporters storming the offices of television channels in Karachi.

Law enforcers launched a swift crackdown on MQM following the speech, sealing its offices and detaining several of its workers and leaders, including Aamir Liaquat Hussain.

The television personality resigned from the MQM shortly after he was released from Rangers' custody.

The development comes in the wake of MQM leader Farooq Sattar announcing that the party was distancing itself from provocative statements made by the MQM Quaid and that he is assuming control of the party.

Sattar further said that decisions regarding the MQM would now be made from Pakistan.
