KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Saturday acquitted three persons which police claimed were agents of Indian intelligence agency RAW.

The three suspects – Tahir Lamba, Imtiaz and Junaid – were accused of possessing illegal weapons and explosives. The court acquitted the three citing lack of evidence.

The accused were arrested in April last year by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar.

At a press conference last year following the arrest of the three suspects, SSP Rao Anwar had levelled serious allegations against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) claiming the party was working against Pakistan on the behest of India.

Anwar claimed that suspects belonged to the MQM, which he alleged had links with Indian spy agency RAW to destabilise Pakistan. The accused had received training from RAW, he had claimed.

SSP Rao Anwar was temporarily suspended by the Sindh government after the press conference announcing the arrest of these suspects and their alleged links to RAW.
