Misbah becomes most successful Asian captain

KARACHI: With ensuring a Test series win against West Indies by taking a decisive lead of 2-0, Misbah ul Haq has become most successful Asian captain, by winning his 10th series.

Since his appointment as Pakistan’s Test captain in 2010, Misbah has led Pakistan in 20 bilateral Test series, of them the win against West Indies was his 10th series win as captain, the highest by any Test captain from the sub-continent.

He has surpassed Indian duo of Saurav Ganguly and MS Dhoni, who both had won nine Test series each. For Pakistan, next to Misbah is Javed Miandad who had led Pakistan in eight series victories.

Of 20 series under Misbah, Pakistan has lost only thrice, while seven series ended as draw.

Yasir Shah, who became the fastest wicket-taker from Asia to reach the 100 wickets milestone in Dubai Test earlier, ended with bowling figures of 10/210, taking his total wickets tally in 18 tests to 112, which is jointly the most by a player in first 18 Tests if his career.

He joined England’s duo George Lohmann and Sydney Barnes in the list of players with most wickets after first 18 Tests.

The win in Abu Dhabi Test is Pakistan’s 10th consecutive international win. The winning run include one ODI and one T20I in England against England, three T20Is against West Indies in the UAE, three ODIs against the West Indies in the UAE and two Tests against West Indies in the UAE.
