101 suspects held for supplying drugs to students in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: About 101 drug peddlers have been arrested for supplying drugs to students in the last three months, according to Islamabad authorities.

The government had launched a crackdown against drug abuse in educational institutes resulting in 14 operations across the city. In the three months, 95 cases have been registered against drug peddlers, the authorities added.

During the operations, the authorities seized about 29,723 grammes of hashish, 1,655 grammes of heroin. Moreover 40,668 bottles of illicit liquor and 350 narcotic pills have also been recovered, along with 373 litres of imported liquor.

On February 9, the Islamabad Police had apprehended seven suspected drug peddlers, including two students, from various universities and adjoining areas. The students were identified as Waleed Shamim and Zamd-ul-Naas.

The suspects were selling ecstasy and hashish to university students, according to the police. A case was registered against the suspects.

Moreover, Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had arrested the leader of a gang allegedly involved in supplying marijuana, LSD, and other imported high-end drugs to students of different universities and educational institutions in the federal capital in January.
