Pakistan hold practice session ahead of Champions trophy

KARACHI: Aiming to lift the ICC Champions’ Trophy for the first time, the Pakistan Cricket team continued to work hard and gel together in the pre-event training camp being held in Birmingham.

On Friday, the team underwent a long training session for around three hours, in which players did some targeted training.

“Players were given different targets during the training session in Edgbaston, batsman worked on their techniques, bowlers did work on adjusting themselves with white ball in English conditions,” the team’s spokesman told geo.tv from Birmingham.

The spokesman added that the fast bowler Mohammad Abbas, who stole the limelight during the Test series against West Indies, has been called to attend the camp as well.

“The team management has called Mohammad Abbas to the pre Champions Trophy Camp of Team Pakistan setup at Birmingham. He is called to get experience on the use of white ball cricket in English conditions,” the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, team’s head coach Mickey Arthur says he’s confident of a good show in the eight-team tournament adding that the camp in Birmingham would allow Pakistan team to do some pre-event fine tuning.

“We have worked extremely hard with our one day team, we have to do some little bit of fine tuning before the event,” Mickey said on Friday, on sidelines of Pakistan Cricket team’s training session.

“There is always a pressure on everyone in any ICC event, every game is full of pressure regardless of which team you are playing for and whoever your opponent is,” he added.

Pakistan will launch the Champions’ Trophy campaign with the match against arch-rivals India on June 4th in Edgbaston.
