ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has granted permission to the National Accountability Bureau to record statements of the Joint Investigation Team members who probed assets of the Sharif family.

According to sources, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan accepted the request of NAB Islamabad that wrote to the apex court last week. Justice Ijaz is the judge appointed by the Supreme Court to oversee the bureau’s proceedings against Nawaz Sharif and his family members.

Earlier, sources had said, JIT head Wajid Zia refused to give statements to NAB saying the investigative team was no more effective therefore he would not speak over the matter until court orders were received.

Last week, NAB summoned Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, Maryam and her husband Captain (retd) Safdar over the London properties. However, the siblings and Safdar did not show up saying they would only go to the bureau after a decision is made on the review petition they have filed in the apex court.
