DI KHAN: Police obtained on Wednesday custody of eight suspects who allegedly assaulted a girl and paraded her naked a few days ago as an act of 'punishment' in Dera Ismail Khan.

The police, who have yet to nab the primary suspect, Sajawal, had sought the physical remand of the suspects for 10 days but Judicial Magistrate Adam Khan only approved their custody for three days.

The judge also ordered the police to have the suspects' medical tests conducted.

SP Ashfaq Khan said that the police have also recorded the statement of the victim in detail.

He added that the statement was recorded in the presence of local Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA Amin Gandapur.

According to the police, the victim’s brother, Sajjad, was reportedly involved in an extra-marital affair with a girl in the Girah Mut locality.

A panchayat (council of elders) settled the matter by fining the male's Rs0.25 million but on October 27, the girl was assaulted and paraded on the road as 'punishment'.

According to a press release, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police has assigned the task of supervising the investigation to Regional Police Officer Fida Hasan Shah for a swift and impartial conclusion of the case.

The FIR, number 210, has been registered at the Chaudhwan Police Station, DI Khan.
