Six dead as lift falls at under-construction building in Karachi's Boat Basin

KARACHI: Six labourers died on Saturday as the trolley lift they were in fell at an under-construction building in Karachi’s Boat Basin.

Police said the labourers were standing in the lift and installing glass sheets when it fell all of a sudden.

Five labourers died on the spot. Three bodies were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and two to Civil Hospital, rescue officials said.

An injured labourer was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Ali Shalwani.

The area has been cordoned off and the building has been sealed by the District Commissioner's department.
