'We used to listen to Nusrat’s qawwalis after losing matches in 1992 World Cup': Ramiz Raja

Reminiscing the old days of the 1992 World Cup, former cricketer Rameez Raja — who was a member of the world-cup winning team — shared that whenever the team lost any match, the players would listen to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's qawwali to keep their spirits high.

Ustad Nusrat Fateh, who was primarily a singer of qawwali‚ is hailed around the world for his powerful voice and musical renditions.

In a video message on Twitter,  Raja said that the World Cup 1992 triumph is the most iconic moment in Pakistan's history.

"The joy that our victory brought to the nation will always be celebrated," he said in a one-and-a-half-minute-long video on Twitter.

"It was a grand event which made us learn a lot of things. Our team was small but the goal was huge," he fondly recalled.

The renowned commentator said whenever the team faced defeat in the matches, the words from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's rendition "Allah Hu" used to resound in the dressing room.

"We all had built a spiritual connection with God and knew that we are not alone in our quest to bring pride back to the country," the commentator added.

"Our leadership [of the team] was amazing which transformed a small team into world champions," he proudly said.

March 25 is considered a golden and memorable day for all Pakistanis, especially for the country's cricket history, as Pakistan performed brilliantly in the world cup final against England in 1992 and lifted the trophy for the first time.
