WATCH: Throwback to when Shoaib Akhtar broke 100mph barrier

An Australian cricket news outlet shared an old video of an unforgettable moment in international cricket when former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar made a savage delivery that set a major record in the history of cricket.

It was 2001, 20 years ago, when Akhtar fiercely bowled to ex-Australian all rounder Shane Watson, breaking the 100mph barrier in international cricket.

"On the day Shoaib Akhtar became the first bowler to break the 100mph barrier 20 years ago, we dug into the archives to find perhaps his most ferocious delivery on Australian shores," the tweet stated.

Watson retweeted the video, praising Akhtar for being "so bloody fast."

"What a way to spend my 21st birthday!! @shoaib100mph was so good and so bloody fast!!" he wrote.

The video triggered a Twitter interaction between the former cricketers as Akhtar humbly responded to Watson's tweet, saying that he was also just 26 years old back then.

"I was also just 26. Memorable series, how time flies!! Hope you're doing good mate."

At this, Watson replied that it was a spell he will "never forget"

"A spell I will never forget!! You are so right @shoaib100mph. How time flies!!! All is great mate. I hope the same with you."

Meanwhile, former South African skipper AB DeVilliers also replied to the video.

"I still get nightmares on remembering quick bowling of Shoaib Akhtar".

At this Akhtar wrote "Come on AB, you've given sleepless nights to many bowlers yourself."

DeVilliers recalled his tough experience of facing Akhtar as he said that the bowler had "almost broken his leg" during a match when he was just 20 years old.

"Good old days! U almost broke my leg at Supersport Park in my early twenties after I decided to pull you for six. The minute it hit my bat I knew it was a big mistake".
