A lucky man from China who won a lottery of £26 million decided to keep it a secret from his family to prevent them from becoming lazy.

In a lottery office in Nanning, China, the man, who is only known by his first name, hid by wearing a character costume when he visited the office to collect his money.

The father thought that the news would affect his family's lifestyle and attitude towards life. Even though he was excited, he decided to hide the news.

He collected his money last week which was cut down to £20.4million or 171.6 million yuan after tax.

According to a report by Nanning Evening News, the lucky bloke donated 5 million yuan to charity.

"I didn't tell my wife and child for fear that they would be too complacent and would not work, or work hard in the future," he was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

The man bought a total of 40 lottery tickets from a local shop called Litang, The Sun reported. Each ticket that featured the same seven numbers 2, 15, 19, 26, 27, 29, and 2 would be paid out 5.48 million yuan by the lottery company.

He purchased the tickets from a town east of Nanning, got on the train and travelled right into the city to claim his massive prize. The winner said that he was unsure about what to do with the money. He had been playing the game for more than 10 years and had never won such a big sum in his entire life.
