Elliot Page is set to turn the acclaimed sci-fi novel, The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer, into a feature film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 37-year-old actor has acquired the rights to Schrefer's 2021 YA book that focuses on the story of two young boys and sworn enemies who are sent on a space voyage.
However, along the way they realize that in order to survive they must trust each other and work together.
The gripping storyline will grace the screen as Elliot has announced to develop the adaptation along with Matt Jordan Smith and Tuck Dowrey.
“We are proud to stand behind Eliot’s remarkable work”, the trio said in a joint statement. “The Darkness Outside Us is exactly the type of story we want to champion at PAGEBOY – it’s subversive and deeply human at its core”.
“It’s a complex love story, inventive thriller, and a space epic with twists at every turn. We cannot wait to take the next steps towards getting it on the big screen”, they added.
The 45-year-old author also expressed excitement for the upcoming project as he shared, “What would I hope for most for my novel? An agile, young, motivated production company that’s buzzy in Hollywood—and that’s just what I got with PAGEBOY Productions”.
He continued, “I’m so excited by their vision for The Darkness Outside Us and honoured to have the talents of Elliot and Matt and Tuck and the rest of the team devoted to it.”
Schrefer also has a sequel in work, The Brightness Between Us, slated for release in October.
