Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Tesla owner Elon Musk are two of the world's richest people, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire's Index.

Elon Musk’s net worth

Musk, 52, moved to the United States from South Africa in 1992 to attend the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

He earned two degrees and went on to launch his first company, Zip2 Corporation, an "Internet version of the Yellow Pages", with maps to help users find local businesses, IMDB reported citing information from Cheat Sheet.

In 1999, Musk sold Zip2 for over $300 million and later co-founded X.com, an online financial services company.

In 2002, X.com, which had merged with Confinity to form PayPal, was acquired by eBay for $1.5 billion in stock, resulting in Musk receiving $175.8 million as PayPal’s largest shareholder.

In the same year, he also founded Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX). 

The following year, Musk, became one of the first employees at newly-founded Tesla and was also named named one of the co-founders.

In 2022, Musk bought social media platform which was then known as Twitter for $44 billion including $33.5 billion in equity. Musk’s estimated net worth is $189 billion as of this writing.

Jeff Bezos’ net worth

Bezos, 60, was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and is the former CEO and current chairman of the board of Amazon, which he founded in 1994.

He started the now-largest e-commerce company of the world in a garage in Seattle. 

Amazon initially only sold books, but later began selling everything you can find at other retailers and offered to have them delivered to your doorstep.

Amazon is also expected to overtake Walmart as the largest retailer.

Bezos also founded his own space agency, Blue Origin, in 2000 and purchased The Washington Post in 2013. He also owns stakes in Uber and Airbnb.

Currently, Bezos has a higher net worth than Musk, standing at $204 billion, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
