The Weeknd just opened up about the experience of losing his voice back during a 2022 concert and how it inspired his highly-anticipated album.

As he recalled a rather terrifying incident, the 34-year-old sensational artist admitted he suffered from a "mental breakdown" that left him feeling "defeated."

The Blinding Lights singer, who is now set to release his upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, returned back to the stage of Los Angeles at the SoFi Stadium, just a few weeks later to complete his tour date commitments.

"I knew that I really needed to sit the f*** down and figure out my life. To understand what happened, face it, learn something new and start again," he told Variety.

Revealing how Hurry Up Tomorrow is actually inspired from this experience, The Weeknd mentioned, "I’d had a kind of a mental breakdown, which is pretty much what this new album’s about."

He also explained how he has been working on Hurry Up Tomorrow since before losing his voice, and that this particular incident made him "go right back to the drawing board."

"I had a good chunk of the album done, but then [SoFi] happened, and other things happened after, and you go right back to the drawing board. Because this was a really important, pinnacle moment in my life. How could it not be?” the Starboy hitmaker recalled.

"And as an artist, you’re telling a story, so you get under the hood and try to figure out what’s going on. In the process, I got closer, and I became more grateful - I know it sounds cliche and soft or whatever, but it’s the truth. I’ve been working on myself to not push people away," The Weeknd further detailed of his growth as an artist as well as a person.
