Brian Wilson, the co-founder of The Beach Boys, has died after his year long battle with dementia, his family confirmed.

In an official statement on the singer’s website, the family wrote, “We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away.”

"We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time, as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world,” they added.

Brian was born in California and demonstrated a love for music since he was a child and proceeded to form the iconic band The Beach Boys, in 1961 alongside his brothers Dennis Wilson and Carl Wilson, his cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine.

They released their debut single in 1961 and enjoyed chart success by the grace of songs such as Surfin' U.S.A., I Get Around, and Good Vibrations.

Brian Wilson married twice in his lifetime, first in 1964 to Marilyn Rovell till 1979 and then wedded Melinda Ledbetter from 1995 till her death in 2024.

The singer shared daughters Carnie and Wendy with Marilyn and later adopted five further children with Melinda.
