Barbara Walters had an unharmonious relationship with daughter Jacqueline “Jackie’ Dena Guber.

While conversing with People magazine, the late American television and radio journalist and TV show host’s long-time pal and erstwhile NBC correspondent Cynthia McFadden shared, “She’d tell everyone, ‘I so admire your relationship with your children.’”

The 69-year-old added, “She was very regretful about her family life. It was something she felt like she couldn’t fix. So that was really tugging at her."

McFadden went on to reveal that near the end of Walters’ long career, she often asked her friends to show her photographs of their children and grandchildren. The View alum would look at snaps with a kind of sadness and remarked they were “lucky” to have happy, big families.

Notably, in the forthcoming Hulu documentary Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything, the director Jackie Jesko looks at how Walters became the first woman to anchor the nightly news in 1976 and ended up becoming the undisputed queen of “the celebrity sit-down interview.”

In the documentary, Jesko also depicts how the Primetime Nightline alum’s hard work affected her personal life, but this is not the main part of the film.

Shedding light on not letting Walter’s regrets about her being a better wife and mother take away from all the things she did well in her life, she said, "I grappled with that. I do feel like if she had to do it all over again, she probably wouldn't change a thing."

Before concluding, it is pertinent to mention that Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything will be released on June 23, 2024, on Hulu.
