Lionel Richie is taking a brief break from the road after a health scare cut short the opening night of his latest tour.
According to Live Nation Chicago, the music icon has postponed his next two concerts per doctors’ orders after feeling dizzy during his performance in Minnesota.
Richie, 77, was scheduled to perform in Chicago on June 26 and Columbus, Ohio, on June 27 as part of his Sing A Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
However, organisers announced on Instagram that both shows have been postponed after doctors advised Richie “to rest and return to full health.”
The statement added that Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire are expected to resume the tour on June 30 in Pittsburgh.
“Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon,” the announcement read.
The postponements come one day after The Voice coach was forced to leave the stage early during the tour opener in St. Paul, Minnesota.
While performing Dancing on the Ceiling, Richie told the audience he was feeling dizzy before taking a seat.
“When you're feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” he joked, later remaining seated to perform Three Times a Lady.
After an unexpected intermission, Richie did not return. His saxophonist, Dino Soldo, later informed the crowd that the singer was too unwell to continue the show.
According to TMZ , Richie was evaluated by paramedics backstage and taken to a hospital as a precaution.
