David Beckham all smiles as he joins fiancée of Prince William's friend at Wimbledon

Former tennis queen Maria Sharapova, who is engaged to Prince William's friend Alexander Gilkes, is currently visiting United Kingdom with her fiancé.

The Russian spent couple of days exploring the country before she turned up at Wimbledon, which sprang into life on Monday.

Sharapova  posed for a selfie with another friend of William's and shared it with her millions of fans on Instagram.

The five-time grand slam winner clicked the selfie with former England football star David Beckham and shared it on Instagram with caption that said, "Let the (Wimbledon) games begin."

It's worth mentioning here that Prince William attended Eton College and one of his prominent friends included Alexander Gilkes.

Gilkes, who was previously married to fashion designer Misha Nonoo, had attended Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding with his former wife in April 2011.

Kate Middleton had been a regular attendee at Wimbledon in the past but it's still not known whether she would be showing up during the tournament this year too.

Gilkes and Misha Nonoo finalized their divorce in 2017 before he started dating Maria Sharapova.

Wimbledon started as the world's oldest tennis tournament opened its gates to thousands of spectators who had queued up for hours in the gentle morning sunshine.
