Brie Larson is having a serious full-circle moment – and honestly, it’s kind of adorable.
The Oscar-winning star is stepping into the cosmic world of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie as Princess Rosalina, and it’s not just another role on her resume. It’s personal.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan UK, Larson got real about what this opportunity means, tracing it all the way back to childhood game insights with her sister Super Mario Galaxy.
“I’ve always loved video games… It’s art, it’s for everybody,” she said — firmly shutting down the idea that gaming belongs to just one crowd.
And if you think she’s playing it cool about landing the role? Not even close.
“She would just cry… a lot,” Larson said of her 10-year-old self.
“If I knew there was relief in the future… I don’t think there would be any words, just tears.”
Before becoming Captain Marvel or winning an Oscar for Room, she was just a kid chasing a dream people told her might not happen. That context hits a little harder now.
Even with experience behind the mic, this role threw her some curveballs.
“You get into these conundrums… ‘this is Princess Rosalina hugging someone’… how does that affect your voice?”
Fair question, honestly.
As for Rosalina herself? Larson describes her as “an otherworldly, strong, motherly cosmic force,” adding,
“she’s not fully definable… she’s everything.”
Big energy.
The film is now in cinemas, and whether you are a longtime fan or just here for the nostalgia, Larson promises one thing: “the film has such a beautiful message.”
