The two royal brothers, Prince William and Harry, are still united in a grief that does not seem to spare them, haunting the two princes throughout their lives.

William and Harry were once incredibly close but they've drifted apart in recent years. The Duke has only been reunited with the future monarch a handful of times since he stepped back as a senior working royal in 2020 and relocated to the US to start a new life.

Their late mother's never-before-seen footage has brought the 'heir and spare' back together in a tearful moment.

Princess Diana's iconic photo, emerging from one of the most defining humanitarian moments of her life, must be bringing tears to Harry and William's eyes, and reviving the sad memories of their late mother's tragic death in a car crash at the age of 36 in 1997.

The footage, broadcast by ITV News as part of its Reporting History series, films Diana during her January 1997 visit to Angola, where she  went out of the box to campaign for a global ban on landmines.

The historic shot still brings back a wave of emotion for both of Diana's sons as the Princess of Wales lost her life in a Paris accident later that year.

In the clip, she is seen walking through a live minefield in protective gear and speaking candidly to journalists about both her humanitarian mission and her role as a mother.

The visit, while widely praised internationally, sparked political controversy in the UK at the time due to perceived alignment with Labour Party policy, drawing criticism from the then Conservative government, making it Diana's most iconic moment.

The moment brings back a wave of emotion for the royals as there is a shared sense of grief when revisiting moments like this.

Steve Scott, who's Africa correspondent for the outlet at the time of Diana's humanitarian visit, recalled his interaction with the royal during the trip, saying: "I stood with her on the plane. It was a long conversation. She wanted to talk about her boys and about how much she missed them when she goes away."

"Despite the fact that this campaign was very important to her and that she was going to continue working on it, her priority was her boys, and that's where she would be, focusing most of her energy going forward."

The journalist also explained how her death left an impact on him and others, adding: "I just found it very, very sad. The woman I spoke to about her sons and how important they were to her, suddenly those boys did not have that mother who was going to guide them through life."

Harry retraced his mother's steps in 2019 during a visit as part of his work with the Halo Trust, continuing her advocacy for mine clearance.
